Day 3: An Imperial Affair

One of the main reasons to come to Vienna is to get a taste for how the Hapsburg Empire came to be and why it was such a powerful dynasty. After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll take the train a bit outside the city to the Schonnbrun Palace, the seat of the Hapsburgs. If you’ve ever been to Versailles and loved it, you’re in for a treat. We’ll take a tour of the palace and have time to wander the English-style gardens outside.

We’ll have lunch at the Palace (you’ll definitely work up an appetite after traversing the hundreds of rooms within the palace), and then return to Vienna where you’ll have some free time to wander the city, visit St. Stephen’s Cathedral, or enjoy one of the other attractions or museums the city has to offer.

Or, just sit in silence in your room. Because no kids.

We’ll dine at a classic Viennese restaurant, Puerstner, in a decadent dining room the Hapsburgs would have loved. After dinner, we’ll head to the stunning St. Peter’s Church for a concert of Mozart, Schubert and Vivaldi, among others.
